African Music Comes to Main Street

Join us for a very special experience in the historic Wood Library in South Windsor! This show celebrates the release of the new CD Sadza With the Head of a Mouse by New York Afrodelic roots band TIMBILA, and Zimbabwean mbira maestro Chartwell Dutiro. Timbila backs Dutiro in new interpretations of ancient Zimbabwean songs, and Dutiro produces Timbila's original compositions & arrangements that merge traditional music from Zimbabwe & Mozambique with East Village rock. Together they build creations around the timbila, a xylophone of Mozambique, and the metal-pronged mbira of Zimbabwe.

Chartwell Dutiro is well known for his charismatic performances and infectious music.

Timbila brings their own mojo to some of the richest African musical traditions, with great heart, chops and authenticity. -- Bonnie Raitt

Special feature: a short music video spotlighting mbira musicians from Dutiro's home village.

Refreshments will be served, and craft-brewed beer provided by Hog River Brewing Co, Hartford.
